Christ and the Temple
Christ showed respect for the temple. When he was 12 years old, he entered into the rabbinical discussions in its porches
and described it is her father’s house (Luke 2:41-50) . To him “ the house of God” was one indwelt by God
(Matthew 12:4) . Although he twice emptied it in righteous anger (21: 12-13;John 2:13-16) , he wept over the impending destruction
of the city and temple. When he was rejected as the Messiah, in spite of his miracles, he predicted the temple’s inevitable
destruction.

in us. Paul’s advice to Timothy and look back at your experience. Who is the foundation of your faith. What gifts has
the Holy Spirit given you? How can you build on the foundation that has already been laid, using the gifts you have already

The Temple
A temple is a place where people worship. For the Jews the temple was a place to worship and make sacrifices to God, whom
they called Jehovah. In pagan temples people worship practices in these pagan temples were similar to the Jews, such as praying,
burning incense, and giving offerings and sacrifices. But some pagan temple worship included human sacrifices. But some pagan
temple worship included human sacrifices and prostitution, which were considered sin by the Jews. When the Jews were traveling
to the Promised Land after being released from Egypt, they were instructed by God to build a movable temple called a tabernacle
so that they would have a place of worship wherever they made camp. Later, Solomon Built a more permanent temple for worshiping
God. The people saw the tabernacle and the temple as the place where God’s Spirit dwelled. The temple was destroyed
and rebuilt several times in history. When Jesus came he taught that the “temple of God” was more than a building.
Our bodies are temples of God because he dwells in us through our faith in Christ.
